Denny Hamlin’s pit road woes returned to haunt him once again on Sunday, leaving him with a mountain to climb to reach the Championship 4 of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
The No. 11 Toyota came home in eighth place with no stage points in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with a pair of mishaps in the pits costing him dearly.
Hamlin was in position for a big points haul in Vegas, but he finished the day in fifth place in the playoff standings, with a massive 27-point gap to fourth-place William Byron to overcome with just two races remaining until the field is cut to four.
