Joe Gibbs Racing star Christopher Bell furiously reacted on the radio after missing out on qualification to the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4.
On Sunday, Joey Logano emerged victorious in the Sout Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, snatching the win by just 0.662s. Bell finished second, agonizingly missing out on a win that would have seen him automatically advance to the Championship 4.
Bell drove a fine race, making no mistakes and enjoying fast pit stops to maintain a lead over William Byron and Alex Bowman through the final cycle of green-flag stops. However, Logano incredibly stretched the fuel to steal victory at the last.
After leading 155 of 267 laps, Bell was condemned to missing out on a crucial win, finishing second despite his dominant performance. Over the radio, the 29-year-old said: “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me
In the final stage of Sunday’s race, Logano used a one-stop strategy and somehow saved enough fuel over the final stage to cross the line ahead of Bell, who was one of the two-stop drivers. Bell is still looking to make the Championship 4 for the third consecutive year, and he currently has more points than any of the seven playoff drivers not yet locked in after Las Vegas
“It is a whole new race next week,” said Bell as he eyes repeat success in Florida. “This track means nothing for next week, and fortunately, we were able to go and win in Homestead last year, but nothing is guaranteed.
“Just because I ran second this week, doesn’t mean I’m going to finish anywhere next week. I think the points look pretty good, which is a positive, but you are never safe in this deal. We needed to win today, and unfortunately, we didn’t. We will go on to the next one
