Five people were killed and one was hospitalized after a wrong-way driver plowed into their vehicle on a Fort Worth, Texas, interstate early Sunday, trapping the victims in their flaming vehicle.

The accident occurred around 3:35 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the Loop 829 Freeway, the Fort Worth Police Department told the Daily News in an emailed statement.

“It is currently believed that a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Loop 820 collided with another vehicle which resulted in a vehicle fire and entrapment,” police said. “Five individuals were pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel, and one additional individual has been transported to an area hospital.”

The injured person was in serious condition but expected to survive, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Police did not say whether the wrong-way driver was one of those killed.
