Michael Raimondi, a 10th grader at Somers High School, was fatally wounded after a man shot him, his 8th grade brother and their mother in the family’s Baldwin Place home Monday evening, officials said.
Harry LeFevre, interim superintendent for the Somers Central School District, announced Raimondi’s death in a message to the community Tuesday afternoon, citing information provided to him by law enforcement.
Raimondi’s brother, Matthew, and their mother, who was not named, remain hospitalized in critical condition
During this difficult time, many students, staff, and families will struggle with a range of emotions,” LeFevre wrote in his message. “Please know that we are here to support everyone. We are coordinating with our district and area mental health professionals to provide grief counseling and other resources for those in need of support.”
LeFevre added: “In times of grief, it is essential that we come together as a community to support one another. If you have specific concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please reach out to a wellness team member or other trusted adult.”
At a press conference Tuesday, Somers Town Supervisor Rob Scorrano described the shooting as a “domestic violence event” and indicated that the suspected shooter, Fernando Jimenez, was a romantic partner of the boys’ mother and had permission to be in the home.
