16-year-old charged with stabbing woman in the back of the head at SE Indy park

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed over the weekend at a park on Indy’s near southeast side.

David Tipton-Blunk, 16, of Indianapolis, was arrested on Sunday after IMPD officers were called to Sandorf Park on Dawson Street for a stabbing. He was then booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on a $100,000 surety bond and charged with felony attempted murder.

The charge stems from an Oct. 27 incident in which a woman was stabbed twice in the head with a knife while walking through Sandorf Park. The woman is still recovering after her head was stapled shut.

IMPD crews were called around 5:30 p.m. to 2020 Dawson Street after a woman reported being stabbed by a teenager wearing a blue hoodie who’d fled southbound on State Avenue. While en route, dispatch received a call from a man saying his 16-year-old son was the stabbing suspect.

The father told police that he and his son were standing near a liquor store just south of Sandorf Park on E. Raymond Street. He also told 911 that his son was experiencing a mental/emotional breakdown.

Upon arrival at the liquor store, an IMPD officer found an adult male fighting with a 16-year-old boy identified as Tipton-Blunk. The officer also found a black-handled kitchen knife on the sidewalk. The knife reportedly had both blood and hair on it.

Meanwhile, more officers arrived at Sandorf Park and spoke with a woman suffering from a stab wound to the back of her head. While receiving medical treatment, the woman told officers that she was in the park with her juvenile daughter when the teen stabbed her.

The victim told police that she saw the suspect “walking aggressively” toward a group of teens with a knife in his hand. The woman said she grabbed her daughter and attempted to run away, but the suspect reportedly said “so you think this is funny” and began walking toward her.

The woman said the boy continued to repeat his question as she attempted to shield her daughter. She said she then felt a hard blow to the back of her head. After this, witnesses reportedly yelled that the suspect had a knife before the teen ran away on foot.

EMS crews then transported the woman to Eskenazi Hospital, where two staples were used to close up a cut on the back of her head. She reportedly suffered headaches, neck pain and goose eggs on her head in the following days.
