Football coach’s horror injury from ‘unprovoked attack’ on holiday with daughter

Six men in their 30s, and a man in his 20s, were interviewed on suspicion of GBH after John Forsyth suffered life-changing injuries during an “unprovoked” assault while on holiday in Blackpool

The devastated family of a man who sustained life-changing injuries during an “unprovoked” attack have issued a desperate appeal for more information.

On July 28 at 1am, Lancashire Police were called to an area of Blackpool after receiving reports of a brawl and found John Forsyth, who is in his 50s, unresponsive at the scene.

The East Lothian dad was laying outside the Shores Hotel and had reportedly tried to intervene in an altercation. He was rushed to hospital where he remains with injuries considered life-changing.

Police have interviewed six men in their 30s and a man in his 20s under caution on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm after John Forsyth was allegedly attacked.

Months after the attack, John’s family are appealing to the public for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

They said: “During a trip away with his daughter, something they have done many times before, John was the victim of an unprovoked attack that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Before the attack John was always active, had his own business and coached children’s football in his local community,
